We design catalysts one atom at a time

Our research at the School of Chemistry, University of Nottingham focuses on the atomic-scale design of catalytic materials for energy and sustainable chemistry.
Our research integrates atom-by-atom fabrication with spectroscopy, electron microscopy and mechanistic modelling to understand and control catalytic behaviour at the most fundamental level. By uncovering structure–performance relationships and developing predictive descriptors, we create catalytic systems with a particular focus on sustainable ammonia synthesis and hydrogen production from ammonia, moving from empirical optimisation towards rational catalyst design.
We are always interested in hearing from motivated PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and potential academic or industrial collaborators. Please get in touch to discuss possible opportunities.
